Beth boarded a private jet to Aruba with her husband, Jug, and two of his friends a few hours later, even without seeing Natalee. At around 10:00 p.m. that evening, the party arrived on the island. Although it was late, the squad got the right to find the missing adolescent. They started by going to the last location where she was seen.

Beth learned Natalee had been last seen in a car with Dutch teen Joran van der Sloot and his two friends Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, on their first night in Aruba. Van der Sloot, who was 17 at the time, was a pupil at Aruba’s International School. He seemed to be a reasonably harmless character, according to witnesses.
