For starters, she was the first non-white woman to have starred in a TV show. That’s right – we are talking about her performance in Julia. Her amazing portrayal is even more impressive now that you know it was not the norm at the time. Over the years, she has received many nominations and awards, although she had to go through a different challenge later in life. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and you can bet that we are glad she was able to fight the disease. The star retired from acting in 2014.
