It was in 1996 that he was supposed to get an award for being the top college golfer at a dinner at Stanford. However, he opted to skip the event. We don’t know why, but he apparently wrote letters to the guests to apologize for not showing up.

During a tournament in Thailand back in 2000, he got the incredible offer of a Thai citizenship. He politely turned it down. Did you know that his mother Kultida “Tida” Woods is from Thailand? She and Earl met while he was on duty in 1968.
